 6.5 grendel ammo Product Overview

This 6.5 grendel ammo called Hornady Custom-grade ammunition provides shooters and hunters custom

grade ammunition but in a factory offering.

Each round is built to the tightest tolerances for peak performance rivaling and sometimes surpassing handloads in many guns.

This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Loaded with Hornady’s 123 Grain bullet, this round combines proven Hornady performance with a higher

ballistic coefficient than available with most hunting bullets.

The sharp, pointed polymer tip creates a faster, flatter shooting bullet.

With its one-piece core and jacket strengthened in critical areas, the SST delivers much more controlled expansion and

superior weight retention than other tipped bullets.

Featuring Hornady’s trade mark InterLock ring system, this bullet’s core and jacket remain locked solid during expansion,

creating massive wound channels.

The 6.5 Grendel is quickly showing its capabilities as a tack driving, flat shooting,

long range round without the cost and bulk of heavier rounds.

This Steel cased, Berdan primed load by Wolf, makes the cost drop even further while the performance remains.

This 100 grain FMJ round pushes 2620 feet per second out of the muzzle and delivers 1524 ft. lbs. of energy at exit.

Being Berdan primed offers excellent ignition consistency but makes it much more difficult to reload;

paired with the steel casing it’s not practical to try to reload this round,

but it is offered at a significantly discounted price point which makes it a great all around box to stock on your ammo shelf.

The ball ammo is still a very effective varmint and small game round out to excellent distances, and the load offers very good price for range days.

A modern classic already, the 6.5 Grendel delivers devastating ballistics in a small package

Wolf Ammunition (the producer of this Wolf Military Classics load) is based in Russia.

It’s manufacturing process involves coating the steel cases in a special coating which has proven

to be reliable in loading and extraction in military firearms and commercial civilian weapons alike. Packaged as 20 rounds per box; 25 boxes.

what is 6.5 grendel ammo:

The 6.5mm Grendel is an intermediate cartridge jointly designed by British-American armorer Bill Alexander.

A competitive shooter Arne Brennan (of Houston, Texas) and Lapua ballistician Janne Pohjoispää,

as a low-recoil, high-precision rifle cartridge specifically for the AR-15 platform at medium/long range (200–800 yard …

Experienced enthusiasts understand this, but for new owners it is important to understand that
6.5 Creedmoor cartridges and 6.5 Grendel ammo are not interchangeable.
They will not run in the same gun without modification and that task is not something readily tackled by the average enthusiast.
What Are The Top 6.5 Grendel Ammo Options:
  • Hornady Custom 123-grain SST.
  • Underwood 110-grain Controlled Chaos.
  • Nosler Trophy Grade 129-grain AccuBond.
  • Hornady Black 123-grain ELD.
  • Federal Premium 130-grain Gold Medal.
  • Alexander Arms 123-grain Lapua Scenar.
Since its introduction, it has proven to be a versatile cartridge and is now expanding into
other firearm design platforms including bolt-action rifles and the Kalashnikov system.
The name “Grendel” is inspired by the mythical monster antagonist from the Old English epic poem Beowulf.
The new rifle comes as part of an infantry upgrade for the Serbian Army which includes
new 7.62x54R rifles, optics, helmets, and load-bearing equipment.
This development marks the first adoption of the 6.5 Grendel round as standard by a national military force.
It retains greater terminal energy at extended ranges than either of these cartridges due to its higher ballistic coefficient (BC).
For example, the 123 gr 6.5 mm Grendel bullet has more kinetic energy and better body armor penetration at
1,000m than the larger and heavier 147 gr bullet of the M80 7.62mm NATO round
The 6.5 Grendel transforms the AR as a hunting rifle, allowing it to shoot very effective polymer tipped and
controlled-expansion bullets up to 125 grains.
7.62×39 ammo has a . 30 caliber bullet, whereas the 6.5 Grendel’s 6.5mm bullet is a good deal narrower.
Either rounds’ bullets are commonly the same weight at around 123 grains, however, making
the 6.5 Grendel’s bullet necessarily longer.

  • Trusted brand
  • Accurate
  • High muzzle energy
  • Competition-level ammo

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Lower muzzle velocity

Why We Chose It

Hornady is one of the most trusted ammo brands because they consistently produce high-quality ammo,

which you know will go bang when you pull the trigger.

The polymer-tipped ELD Match bullet used is incredibly accurate for competition shooters and hunters because

it has the highest ballistic coefficient in its class, so it easily sheds the wind. and

However, as expected with competition-level ammo, it’s expensive compared to plinking rounds.

I recommend other cheaper options if you want to use this ammo for target shooting.

Though it has higher muzzle energy because of its heavier bullet, it also has a lower muzzle velocity for the same reason.

Overall the Hornady Black 6.5 Grendel 123Gr ELD is a great choice for long-range competition shooters,

and the Hornady SST 6.5 Grendel is excellent for hunters.

Honorable Mention

If your gun isn’t chambering Hornady ammo well, try Nosler Match Grade 6.5mm Grendel 123gr HPBT or

Nosler Trophy Grade 6.5mm Grendel 129gr AccuBond rounds.

This ammo is more expensive per round, but Nosler projectiles are a favorite of many reloaders because of their outstanding accuracy.

The hollow point boat tail bullets are also great for whitetail deer hunting or for smaller varmints like coyotes,

though don’t confuse them with the Nosler ballistic tip bullets.

The spitzer boat tail bullets are for big game hunting, like larger deer and antelope, because they pack more punch with the added weight.

The muzzle velocity of the Nosler Match Grade is lower than the Hornady Black rounds, despite having bullets of the same weight.

The Nosler Trophy Grade muzzle velocity is lower than both rounds mentioned above due to the increased bullet weight.

WHAT IS 6.5 GRENDEL AMMUNITION?

The acronym “Grendel” is inspired by the mythical monster antagonist from the Old English epic poem “Beowulf”.

The 6.5 Grendel Ammunition is a high-precision, lowrecoil round specially designed for long and medium-range shooting from 200

– 800 yards and some instances above  using an AR-15 platform.

This load is versatile and has expanded to other platforms, including the Kalashnikov system and bolt-action firearms.

HISTORY OF 6.5 GRENDEL CARTRIDGES

Bill Alexander and Janne Pohjoispaa jointly created the 6.5 Grendel Hunting Ammo.

This load was unveiled and tested in 2003 at the Blackwater Training Facility in North Carolina,

where it remained supersonic at 1,200 yards (1,100 m) range and out-shot the 7.62mm NATO with only half the recoil.

The main aim behind the invention of this cartridge was to create an effective STANAG magazine-length load for the AR-15 platform

that could shoot at a range beyond 800 yards that is above 730m and with performance above the 223 Remington/5.56mm NATO round.

This cartridge faced difficulties being accepted in the community of hunters for several reasons,

one being that Alexander trademarked the name of the load.

To solve the problem mentioned earlier, Alexander Bill in 2011 relinquished the trademark when

the load gained SAAMI approval, enabling other companies to produce barrels, grendel ammo

with the acronym 6.5 Grendel Ammo bulk 500 Rounds.

Given the tight restriction of STANAG magazine size, the Grendel designer opted for a shorter,

wider case to fit more powder while leaving space for its long, high ballistic coefficient 65mm rounds.

The weight of this load ranges from 90 gr to 130 gr with muzzle velocity ranging between 2300 ft/s for the

129 gr and 130 gr and 2900 ft/s muzzle velocity for the 77 and 90 gr round.

The 6.5 Grendel round can weigh anywhere from 227 to 275 grains depending on the case material and bullet weight.

WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

The 6.5 Grendel Barrel load is a cartridge used by individuals, law enforcement,

and hunters for long to medium-range targeting with great precision.

This load is excellent for tactical shooting, big game, and varmint hunting.

It’s commonly believed that Wolf Ammo is a Russian company, but this is false.

The misconception comes from them selling ammo manufactured in the Tula Cartridge Plant located in Russia’s Tula District.

The 100-grain bullet means less recoil in an already low recoil 6.5mm Grendel cartridge.

However, you are sacrificing some muzzle energy because of the lightweight bullet.

If you’re looking to spend a day punching holes with your AR-15 or bolt-action rifles,

Wolf Military Classic 6.5 Grendel 100Gr FMJ gives you more trigger pulls for less money, which is why I recommend it.

If you plan to reload your spent casings, this is not the ammo for you.

Honorable Mention

You’ll be hard-pressed to find 6.5 Grendel hunting and plinking ammo for less than Wolf prices,

but if you prefer to reload your ammo and are willing to spend a little more,

check out Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel 123gr Lapua Scenar SBT.

Because these are brass casings, you can reload them after you’ve shot the factory ammo.

The bullet is heavier, so you will notice a lower velocity but more energy.

The unique bullet design makes it ideal for hunting and home defense situations because

it has better terminal ballistics and projectile fragmentation to cause more wounding for an ethical kill.

It also helps that Alexander Arms introduced the 6.5mm Grendel to the market, so they should know a

thing or two about manufacturing 6.5 Grendel ammo.

Pros

  • Consistent
  • Accurate
  • Reasonably priced
  • Boxer primers

Cons

  • Hard to find

Why We Chose It

Prvi Partizan makes reasonably priced, reliable ammo.

When you pull the trigger, you should expect these rounds to go bang, thanks partly to the boxer primers.

It’s not the cheapest ammo on the market; we’ve already determined that the most cost-effective ammo title belongs to Wolf,

but Prvi Partizan 6.5 Grendel 120Gr HPBT is still more affordable than many other options.

It’s also accurate and consistent, so whether you’re punching holes in paper or using it as hunting ammo,

you can count on it to hit where you were aiming if you’ve correctly sighted in your gun.

The biggest downside is that these rounds are difficult to find because they’re reasonably priced.

Honorable Mention

Consider Barnes Vor-Tx 6.5 Grendel 115gr TTSX BT for reasonably priced hunting ammo.

These rounds are designed for big-game hunting. With a well-placed shot, the TTSX hunting bullet will stop any deer in its tracks.

It’ll feel like you’re shooting a 223 Remington with the shooting distance of a 308 Winchester, so no deer is safe in the woods where you hunt.

Buyer’s Guide: What to Look for in 6.5 Grendel Ammo

Purchasing ammo can be confusing, whether you’re buying it for your 300 Blackout bolt-action rifle, 6.5mm Creedmoor, or 6.5 Grendel.

However, you can help make the decision easier on yourself in a few ways.

First, set a budget.

Determine how much you will spend on ammo and stick to it. We will discuss a few ways to save money on ammo later in the article.

Second, decide what you’ll use the ammo for;

if you plan to use it for hunting, you’ll need different ammo than you would if you plan to shoot steel targets.

This will also help you know which type of bullet you should look for when buying ammo.

Lastly, test which ammo works best in your firearm and stick with it.

You’ll need to experiment to find the best 6.5mm Grendel ammo for your situation, but that’s the fun part! Also, the expensive part…

Common 6.5 Grendel ammo Bullet Types

As I mentioned above, different 6.5 Grendel bullets have various purposes.

Some bullets are better for hunting, while others are designed for target shooting.

No matter how you intend to use your rifle, you should know the standard bullets and their intended purposes.

HPBT

Hollow Point Boat Tail bullets are used for long-range big game hunting.

They’re highly accurate, especially when you add a polymer tip like Hornady SST or the Barnes TTSX BT.

They also cause more damage due to the way they expand, which means a more ethical kill, so the animal doesn’t suffer.

I don’t typically recommend rifles for home defense; however, if you need to use one,

I recommend grabbing a hollow-point bullet because they’re less likely to over-penetrate.

SBT

The Spitzer Boat Tail or Nosler Ballistic Tip is the same as an HPBT bullet, as far as common uses go.

JHP

A Jacketed Hollow Point bullet is a step down from the two above. A JHP doesn’t have a polymer tip or beveled bottom to increase accuracy.

They’re not as good for long-distance shooting, but they are cheaper than the more technologically advanced bullets on the market.

JHP bullets are suitable for close-range hunting and home defense, which is why you find so many in handgun calibers.

FMJ

The cheapest ammo for 6.5 Grendel will be rounds with Full Metal Jacket bullets.

These bullets are best for plinking

. They’re not known for being overly accurate or for long-distance shooting

, but they’re great for hanging out at the gun range, ringing steel, or punching holes.

Bullet Weights for the 6.5mm Grendel ammo:

Below you’ll find the most common bullets for the 6.5 Grendel-

  • 90gr
  • 100gr
  • 105gr
  • 115gr
  • 120gr
  • 123gr
  • 129gr
  • 130gr

Choosing the best bullet weight for your situation is essential because each weight has pros and cons.

Lighter bullets like 90 to 115-grains have much higher velocities and lower recoil than heavier bullets.

However, they lack knockdown power and muzzle energy and are more affected by the wind.

That’s why hunting rounds often opt for heavier bullets and sacrifice a little velocity.

You’ll notice that your gun prefers specific bullet weights as you shoot more.

So feel free to experiment with several different weights until you find the one that works best with your gun.

How to Save Money When Buying the Best 6.5 Grendel Ammo

As you’ve noticed, 6.5mm Grendel ammo is costly.

Therefore, we should have a few ways to save money on ammo to visit the range more often.

I use three ways to save money on ammo: buying in bulk, reloading, and combining the two.

Buying in Bulk

When you buy bulk 6.5mm Grendel ammo, you’ll spend more initially.

However, when you count the cost per round, you can save nearly $0.20,

which doesn’t sound like a lot until you factor that in 500 to 1,000 rounds.

That’s roughly a $100 savings for 500 rounds and a $200 savings for 1,000 rounds.

However, high-quality bulk ammo is difficult to find, so feel free to snatch it up when you see some.

Reloading

Reloading ammo

Reloading is another way to save money on ammo, but it costs more upfront if you still need a reloading press and all the supplies.

Once you’ve purchased all the reloading equipment and supplies, the cost per round depends on how fast you pump out rounds.

The best thing about reloading is how much more you can dial in the perfect round for your rifle instead of relying on factory ammo.

By reloading and buying in bulk, you can maximize your savings.

First, purchase quality bulk ammo that doesn’t have steel casings.

Then take it to the range and have fun! Next, collect your spent brass, bring it home, and reload it.

Brief History of the 6.5mm Grendel

Alexander Arms introduced the 6.5mm Grendel at the 2004 SHOT Show.

Bill Alexander developed it as an intermediate caliber that would outperform

the 5.56×45 round and would be effective up to 800 yards. It also needed to be chambered in the AR-15 platform.

The resulting cartridge has a “necked up” case based on the 6mm PPC bench rest cartridge.

The cartridge holds four-inch groups at 600 yards, a level of accuracy that makes it popular among varmint hunters.

It retains more energy throughout its flight due to the good ballistic coefficient of the bullet, as well as the shape and size of the case.

This round does not require as much powder to generate the amounts of energy found in similar cartridges,

which results in less recoil and longer barrel life.

Wide-spread adoption of the 6.5 Grendel was somewhat hindered by Bill Alexander himself,

as he insisted that the cartridge be trademarked and, therefore, could not be standardized by SAAMI.

However, in collaboration with Hornady Ammunition, Alexander Arms registered the 6.5 Grendel with SAAMI in 2010.

Allowing other manufacturers to create and sell 6.5 Grendel ammo greatly expanded the cartridge’s reach.

As the 6.5 Grendel is still a relatively new cartridge on the market,

it has developed a dedicated following who enjoy the terminal ballistics of a 308 Winchester without upgrading to an AR-10.

With incredible long-range capability, extended barrel life, and MOA-level accuracy,

the 6.5 Grendel is an excellent choice if you want to upgrade your AR-15 platform to something

with more stopping power than a 223 Rem with similar recoil.

The actual ballistics obtained with your firearm can vary considerably from the advertised ballistics.

Also, ballistics can vary from lot to lot with the same brand and type load.

Parting Shots

Choosing the best 6.5 Grendel ammo depends on whether you’re long-range target shooting or hunting.

The Hornady Black 6.5 Grendel 123 Grain ELD does an excellent job of covering both instances;

however, if you’re looking for an inexpensive round, go with the Wolf Military Classic 6.5 Grendel 100Gr FMJ.

WHAT IS 6.5 GRENDEL AMMo?

The acronym “Grendel” is inspired by the mythical monster antagonist from the Old English epic poem “Beowulf”.

The 6.5 Grendel Ammunition is a high-precision, lowrecoil round specially designed for long and medium-range shooting from 200 –

800 yards and some instances above  using an AR-15 platform.

This load is versatile and has expanded to other platforms, including the Kalashnikov system and bolt-action firearms.

HISTORY OF 6.5 GRENDEL ammo CARTRIDGES

Bill Alexander and Janne Pohjoispaa jointly created the 6.5 Grendel Hunting Ammo.

This load was unveiled and tested in 2003 at the Blackwater T

raining Facility in North Carolina, where it remained supersonic at 1,200 yards (1,100 m)

range and out-shot the 7.62mm NATO with only half the recoil.

The main aim behind the invention of this cartridge was to create an effective STANAG magazine-length

load for the AR-15 platform that could shoot at a range beyond 800 yards that is above

730m and with performance above the 223 Remington/5.56mm NATO round. This cartridge faced

difficulties being accepted in the community of hunters for several reasons, one being that

Alexander trademarked the name of the load. To solve the problem mentioned earlier, Alexander

Bill in 2011 relinquished the trademark when the load gained SAAMI approval,

enabling other companies to produce barrels, grendel ammo with the acronym 6.5 Grendel Ammo bulk 500 Rounds.

Given the tight restriction of STANAG magazine size,

the Grendel designer opted for a shorter, wider case to fit more powder while leaving space for its long,

high ballistic coefficient 65mm rounds.

The weight of this load ranges from 90 gr to 130 gr with muzzle velocity ranging

between 2300 ft/s for the 129 gr and 130 gr and 2900 ft/s muzzle velocity for the 77 and 90 gr round.

The 6.5 Grendel round can weigh anywhere from 227 to 275 grains depending on the case material and bullet weight.

WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

The 6.5 Grendel Barrel load is a cartridge used by individuals, law enforcement, and hunters for long to medium-range

targeting with great precision.

This load is excellent for tactical shooting, big game, and varmint hunting.

INFORMATION ABOUT 6.5 GRENDEL

With the addition of the 6.5 Grendel to the product line-up at Alexander Arms® in 2004, the history of no compromise design,

engineering, and innovation continues.

The 6.5 Grendel provides an extreme range capability for hunting, competition and tactical applications.

These ranges are far beyond those previously achievable with the AR-15 style weapon.

The 6.5 Grendel has the flexibility to move from lightweight varmint bullets in the 90-grain class, which offer

superb accuracy for competition and small game shooting, to mid-weight, 108- to

120-grain competition bullets, and then on to 130- and 140-grain bullets, ideal

for longer range, tactical shooting. The origin of the 6.5 Grendel may be traced back to the Soviet 7.62×39.

This was modified for European competition,

being necked down to form the 220 Russian. From here, Dr. Lou Palmisano and Ferris Pindel took

the case and blew out the shoulder to create the 22 PPC and the 6mm PPC, which currently dominate

bench rest competitions. In designing the 6.5 Grendel, the starting position was the PPC design,

but it quickly became apparent that the caliber of the PPC was not as flexible as was needed. Early

research with a wildcat 6.5 PPC also showed that the case lacked powder capacity, which, in turn,

created pressure problems. The final 6.5 Grendel design draws on the PPC, but it is very much its own cartridge.

The internal capacity was expanded by shifting the shoulder forward and the wall thicknesses in the neck and

shoulder were increased to provide a more robust case capable of being fed within a semi-automatic rifle.

Finally, the external taper of the case was adjusted for reliable feed in the magazine.

The 6.5 Grendel is challenging the status quo in military and law enforcement units around the world.

First unveiled in May 2003 at the Blackwater Training facility in North Carolina, the 6.5 Grendel out-shot the

7.62 NATO at range with half the recoil. Still supersonic at 1,200 yards, the 6.5 Grendel delivered superior external

ballistics to the 7.62 NATO. Utter reliability, superior external and terminal ballistics than the current state of the art,

outstanding accuracy in a lightweight M16/AR-15 platform it is what appears to be the pinnacle for what may be

achieved in the M16/AR-15 chassis. The 6.5 Grendel is not a series of compromises, but rather the perfect marriage

of mechanical function, internal, external and terminal ballistics all working in harmony.Shooting a 123-grain

Lapua Scenar with a ballistic coefficient of .547 and a muzzle velocity of 2,600 FPS delivers

outstanding accuracy out to 1,200 yards. At 600 yards, tennis ball size targets are no match for this flat-shooting round.

For extreme accuracy, formidable terminal ballistics and long range applications, the 6.5 Grendel from Alexander

Arms is unbeatable.Compared to the 5.56 NATO, the 6.5 Grendel, with roughly twice the lead mass,

gives you the potential for twice the mass of fragments.

If maximum fragmentation is coincident with maximum temporary cavity, the terminal ballistics are quite convincing

, all in a package that shoots flatter with 50% less felt recoil than 7.62 NATO M80 ball.

  1. Vanammo

    hits hard very precise

  2. Vanammo

Ran through new build to sight in(1/8 twist 6.5 Grendel 20 inch barrel). 1/2 moa 5 shot groups at 100yrds. Used for deer hunt, shot doe(110lbs) at approximately 50yrds pass through shot doe ran approximately 10yrds and piled up. Bullet expanded as designed and made large wound channel. Would recommend for Grendel for hunting because velocity is low enough to cause round to work properly and not blow up on impact like SST bullets usually do in short ranges.

  3. Vanammo

Took a buck this past week at 100 yards from a suppressed Ruger American ranch 6.5 Grendel and the performance was amazing. High shoulder shot and buck was down immediately and never flinched. Complete pass thru with major trauma on the exit. Did lose a little shoulder meat but I’m ok with that for a deer that expired instantly. Will def be using this combo more in the future.

  4. Vanammo

So far just target shooting but extremely accurate rounds I love them, next step hunting with them. I can’t say anything bad about them because how accurate I was shooting with them can’t wait to try it in the field.

  5. Vanammo

Used this to take 3 Texas hogs! All 3 were DRT! Great stuff.

  6. Vanammo

I have had my boys use this ammo to take a couple of animals. First was a Colorado mule deer at about 150 yards. The bullet passed through both shoulders. The second animal was a Texas Dall sheep at about 100 yards. The animal was shot twice and was able to retrieve one of the bullets.

  7. Vanammo

Groups almost as good as the Hornady black. Both are sub 1/2 moa in my rifle. This is my go to hunting ammo and I’ve ordered 5 more boxes.

  8. Vanammo

Just bought a new diamond back. Federal would not eject all the way and would damage the next shell. Hornady never gave me any issues.

  9. Vanammo

Just went hog hunting ammo was spot on. 👍

  10. Vanammo

    Very consistent

  11. Vanammo

Excellent round. Works great for hog and deer

  12. Vanammo

This is the best under MOA bullet for me so far. I’ve tried American Gunner (great value) and Hornady Black so far. This Hornady Custom SST is awsome! I will be looking for lowest prices on it and stacking it up. -18″ Faxon match barrel (hand lapped and bedded) with Faxon BCG -Primary Arms 4-14 ACSS -Seekins Upper/lower -H2 Buffer with wolf high power spring

  13. Vanammo

Limited sample of one, but the one 120 pound whitetail doe I shot with this ammunition, died quickly. The shot was taken at recurve range, so if the SST was inclined to blow up when I shot her through the shoulders, it would have done so. As it happened, however, I got full penetration with an exit hole about the size of a quarter. She made about 30 yards before piling up, and left a heavy blood trail from the spot where she was standing when shot, to the spot where she was recovered. With longer range testing yet to do, I am optimistic that I will continue to see good performance with this ammunition. By the way, I am shooting it out of a CZ 527, and the rounds load, cycle and chamber smoothly. Five stars for sure!

  14. Vanammo

I wanted to test out the grendel for kids deer hunting. I believe this is one of the best rounds for Kids to shoot deer hunting. I’ve killed 6 from 10-60yds with this round this year 18″ barrel. Shot placement does not have to be dead nuts perfect for the round with the fragmentation; it gives about 8.5″ wound diameter in the lung cavity and when going thru the should you can still salvage meat from it. I was able to get a pass thru on all including a quartering away doe from last rib to just in front the shoulder. I did not expect that with ballistic tip. You do not get great blood trails most of the time with this round, because the inside is damaged so much that they tend to fill the cavity instead of pouring out but the trails are short. 5 out of 6 I just walked the direction the deer ran and recovered the deer as it was normally a straight line death run. Most bullets fail up close but these preformed great. Highly recommend the caliber and bullet for Kids that may not put the bullet spot on….or adults for that matter.

  15. Vanammo

Initially to sight-in my new AR. Accurate, clean, and low recoil.

  16. Vanammo

Great ammo. Feeds well in magazines and accuracy is great, used for deer this year and dropped him in one with impressive wounding.

  17. Vanammo

Excellent ammo, very accurate, cycled every time, everything you expect from Hornady

  18. Vanammo

This is my “go to” for white tail deer. Hasn’t failed yet. Out to 300 yards, point and shoot, and it’s there.

  19. Vanammo

Wow! Excellent performance on 2 mule deer bucks using howa mini action with heavy 20″ barrel. This load chronigraphed 2550 fps average and are extremely consistant

  20. Vanammo

I have shot one box of the Hornady Custom 6.5 Grendel ammunition with no failures to function. Very satisfied.

  21. Vanammo

Never can go wrong with hornady ammo very consistent at a reasonable price , kill many hogs with it here in East Texas

  22. Vanammo

Superior Accuracy. Holes touching at 100 yards. Could better if I shot better.

  23. Vanammo

I used the bosx to sight in my new 6.5 grendel upper and scope. It took 6 shots to be dead nuts at 50 yards. 2 more to 0 at 100 yds. The next 12 were touching. less than .5′ group.

  24. Vanammo

I have been shooting Hornady for some time. Finding 6.5 Grendel is a task in it self! This particular load performs accurately and consistently!

  25. Vanammo

My grendel build with 16″ faxon gunner barrel, aero upper and triggertech trigger chews these up and produces sub moa groups. One small ragged hole at 50 yds. Ready for any deer out to about 300 yds, i’m reconning.

  26. Vanammo

Accurate in my AR, can’t wait to use it in the field.

  27. Vanammo

Feeds smoothly, cycles and groups about an inch in my 18″ 1/8 twist PSA upper. This past winter spanked a fleeing coop raiding possum in the caboose at about 4 yards downhill. Though huge by possum standards, I was still surprised that the end toward end did not exit. Though only one round, it got me thinking that fast twist and short ranges may actually mitigate some over penetration issues for home defense.

  28. Vanammo

I’m using this with an Aero Precission AR 15 and consistently grouping within 3/4 inches at 100 yards. Got a pig on my first hunt at 125 yards. Bullet dispatched the pig instantly. Clean entry and very large exit. Very effective round. I was impressed with how well this small round performed.

  29. Vanammo

I just got back from my hunt. I shot a large, 200+ lbs, pound mule deer buck at 75 – 100 yards. This ammo and caliber combination was awesome out of an 18″ barrel. It was a full pass through shot that was a little further back than I’d like (my fault). But the round performed perfectly, caught a rib on exit and left a 2 1/2 to 3″ exit wound. The deer staggered about 10 steps and lights out!

  30. Vanammo

Recently got this ammo and had some hornady black in grendel also. In my custom built Viking Armament ar the black didn’t shoot as well as I had hoped. Out of the 20 inch barrel this 123 sst will hold half inch 3 shot groups or better at 200 yards. My daughter shot a big doe mule deer slightly angled to her at 211 yards with it. Went in leaving a huge hole in the shoulder, destroyed a lung and the heart, and left a inch and a half hole for the exit. I love this ammo and would like to order a bunch more.

  31. Vanammo

I have harvested many deer with this ammo out of a 18 Lilja barrel custom rifle. I also have borrowed it to a few young girls that are sensitive to recoil and all of them have harvested deer with it. One also took a black bear last year. Fun to shoot with low recoil and good accuracy. The high sectional density 123 SST has always exited with a good wound channel. The AR rifle with an adjustable stock is a great set up for young shooters.

  32. Vanammo

i have used this product several times in my ruger rifle. i get 1/2 gropes at 200 yards. i will buy this product again.

  33. Vanammo

This ammo is very accurate in my Howa mini action with a 20″ heavy barrel. Bedded the action and took it out for break in. I shot an incredible .21″ three shot group! Average five shot group was .78″ I have not had a chance to try it on game but I’m sure it will be an excellent deer bullet. The best shooting hunting bullet I have ever tried in a factory load!

  34. Vanammo

Taken 2 deer with this Ammo this year. One was a head shot while the Dow looked at me. 81 yds devastated the head as it traveled down through her throat. The other was a spike through heart/bottom lungs. Deer ran about 80 yds from adrenaline. Very accurate ammo and good through and through penetration.

  35. Vanammo

I’ve fired only 40 rounds to break in a new barrel and sight in the scope. Everyone of these beautiful bullets hit the paper consistently giving .25″, 5-shot groups. I haven’t reloaded any of the fired brass, but all appeared in good condition.

  36. Vanammo

I have used this on hogs and deer and it works! Velocity is good. Price is good. Energy is good. Accuracy is excellent. The best factory ammo I have used for my Grendel. FYI….all of this from a 20 inch barrel for anyone thinking the Grendel needs a longer pipe. I sight mine in for 200 yards which is about 2 inches high at 100 as you will see in the image.

  37. Vanammo

Go wolf ammo for plinking fun and hornady for 1000 yard / hunting rounds great, accurate , and powerful

  38. Vanammo

I have a custom load of 123 grain lapua sceanars in my 6.5 grendel ar! A couple weeks ago at the six hundred yard range son and I were banging away at 12 x 16 inch 1/3 size steel plate! I decided to try a few of these factory hornady loads. I was shocked to still be banging that steel at 600 yards! I has one miss in 5 loads, but for factory loaded this stuff is awesome! I will definatley buy some more for hunting purposes!

  39. Vanammo

Accurate, hard hitting ammunition. Shoots less than 1/2 MOA from my AR. First hunt with it I had a complete pass through just behind the shoulder on a 200 pound mule deer buck at 212 yards – 3 steps and down.

  40. Vanammo

This ammo shoots around 3/4″ at 100 yds in my encore pistol with 13″ barrel and a 4x scope. Have killed 4 deer and 1 audad with it from 30-180 yards. All shots exited with good expansion except for a frontal chest shot on a mule deer buck and he was still DRT.

  41. Vanammo

This is a very good ammo and shoots very well in my AR-15 6.5 Grendel. I have less than MOA while shooting it, up to 300 yards, which is the length of our shooting range… I have taken quite a few deer and coyotes with this ammo and it works great! The 123 gr. SST does the job every time I have used it…

  42. Vanammo

Very impressed with accuracy and quality control of this factory ammo its was consistent and velocity was spot on highly recommended to try for yourself you’ll be impressed

  43. Vanammo

I previously was using the Hornady A-Max in the same caliber for big game (hogs and whitetail) with great accuracy and pretty good performance. I later switched to the SST and they required no re-zero of my setup and much better performance on tough hogs.

  44. Vanammo

Great product, great price very accurate with good velocity and mild recoil. It stacked hit on top of hit at 100 yds and performed well out to 500yds. I need a bigger shooting range

  45. Vanammo

I ordered 10 boxes of this to build up my brass for a 6.5 Grendel that I put together. The gun had a 24″ barrel with a 1:9 twist. This Ammo shoots great and with it I have been keeping a 5″ group out at 600 yards. I have had no issues with feeding and even after running 3 boxes through the gun at one time the gun was not really that dirty. This is great Ammo.
