Surplus cases and bullets are relatively plentiful, but the big primer was harder to find. Once again, CCI came to the rescue. CCI’s No. 35 is designed expressly for the 50 BMG and gives the power needed to ignite the massive propellant charges this cartridge requires.

In early 2010, I acquired my field artillery piece called the Barrett M82. Knowing that I would be reloading for this shoulder cannon, I did some research and located the CCI 35 primers as the best choice for these rounds. I debated on using TulAmmo primers but published reports on various gun boards leaned towards a high rate of FTF so I spent a few extra cents per primer and went with CCI all the way. I have never had a misfire since 2010 so I guess that could be called a pretty good track record after 4,000+ rounds. I seat approximately .005″ below flush but the Barrett is forgiving and deeper seated primers have never misfired.

I have loaded 1000 rounds for my Ferret50 with these so far and have had good results. They do have a very hard cup but fire reliably, I use them to load my match ammo using IMR5010 and 750gr Amax projos with excellent results. Recomend stocking up on them though since they seem to double in price every couple of years! Glad I bought 5000 of them when I did!

I have fired several thousand of these in my Ferret 50 with excellent results. They perform extremely well in the Ferret and when combined with IMR5010 powder and Hornady 750 grain Amax bullets they make match grade ammo every round.

I bought these CCI primers for my 50BMG rifle. They perform perfectly and I have much better groups than with military ammo. I use these with Hornady’s 750 gr. A-Max with much satisfaction! Never a misfire with these primers!
