28 nosler brass Overview

28 Nosler Brass is created to exact dimensional standards and tolerances, using quality materials for maximum accuracy and consistency potential while extending case life. Nosler® Brass also undergoes the rigorous quality control that premium Nosler bullets have experienced for over 60 years.

Each piece of brass is completely prepped and ready to load. The case mouths have been chamfered and deburred. The flash holes are deburred and then checked for proper alignment. Each piece of brass is visually inspected at the factory and sealed in the box until you open them. Together, Nosler bullets and brass are the ingredients for the perfect load.

Nosler 28 nosler Brass was developed to complement their line of custom bullets. Each lot is weight-sorted to provide consistent measurements and capacities for accurate loads and features a Nosler head-stamp. Before shipment, Nosler chamfers and deburrs the case mouths and deburrs the flash hole. Fully prepped and ready to load upon receipt, each piece of brass offers consistency in trimmed length and neck wall thickness. This brass is new and unprimed. This is not loaded ammunition.

Nosler produces 28 nosler brass with the same precision, attention to detail and focus on perfection that has made them a world leader in bullets. They measure their brass for consistent wall concentricity, tests pressure calibration to ensure uniform case expansion and hand-inspects each piece.

This dedication to quality ensures proper seating of the bullet both in the case and in the chamber and consistent charges and pressures. The result is optimal velocity and repeatable accuracy from your cartridges. New, unprimed brass. This is not loaded ammunition.

28 nosler brass preparation

With bulk rifle brass you may sometimes notice a few case mouths are “out of round” or slightly dented below the shoulder.  These imperfections occur in the final tumbling wash operation after the case mouth has been annealed.  Brass manufacturers are aware of the case cosmetics and have worked to mitigate it, but due to equipment design, denting may still occur.  Minor dents are normally removed in the first firing and will not affect case life or performance.  On non-plated brass, you may also notice all the anneal stain might not be polished off, which may give the case neck a pinkish color.  With some smaller caliber cases you may notice the case mouths to be slightly belled.

With all new rifle brass, you should first straighten out the case and case mouth, then chamfer and debur the case mouth inside and out.  To straighten the case mouth, run the case part way into the sizer die and let the expander ball straighten the brass.  To prevent the case neck from stretching, be sure to lubricate the case neck inside the case mouth.

advantages of 28 nosler brass

28 nosler brass is optimized not only for consistency in performance, but also for durability. One of the ways we accomplished this is by optimizing the material in specific areas to strengthen it. With the optimized material geometry, our brass will generally have a different case volume than most other manufacturer’s brass and therefore will require a different charge weight to achieve the same pressures and velocities. We recommend using a reputable load data source and working up from their recommended minimum starting loads. We recommend reducing any existing charge weights by 10% and re-developing your specific load when replacing any component in a load recipe with a new component (brass, projectile, primer, or powder type). Failure to reduce charge weights established using other manufacturers brass may result in higher pressures and velocities while using ADG brass and may result in unsafe pressure levels.

importance of 28 nosler brass

28 nosler Brass is designed for those who want to take finding the perfect load into their own hands. The brass is hand-inspected to ensure exact dimensional standards and tolerances are met, allowing for maximum accuracy and consistency. Serving shooters time after time without sacrificing performance, Nosler® Premium Brass is made with quality materials for optimum case life and unmatched reloadability.

Build the perfect load has long been the motto of hand loaders loyal to Nosler brand bullets–and was the sole reason we developed Nosler cartridge brass. Introduced in 2005, the Nosler cartridge brass line is ready to load.  Manufactured with the traditional Nosler philosophy of uncompromising attention to detail, Nosler cartridge brass is created to exact dimensional standards and tolerances, using quality materials for maximum accuracy and consistency potential while extending case life.  Nosler brass also undergoes the rigorous quality control that premium Nosler bullets have experienced for over 60 years.

I bought 200 pcs of Nosler brass for my 28 Nosler. It’s been over a year with them running into their 6th reload. I’ve lost 11 in hunting situations and around 30 to split necks and cracked cases some from the second reload with a medium load of 84 grains of US869 and 160 grain Barnes TTSX and a MOA of 0.2″-0.5″ consistently at 100 yds. They needed trimming from the 3rd loading and I have been FL sizing each time with Forster dies. The primer pockets vary from loose to tight, I do not turn my necks but experience loose to tight neck tensions. Maybe the reason I now have a ES of around 23 FPS compared to 8 FPS with the first loading. The same lot of primers, same lot of powder, same lot of bullets and in Hawaii it’s usually around the same temperature and humidity year round. I’ve just tried Bertram brass and although my case capacity is less I have a solid ES of 7 FPS along with a gain of 40 FPS. Maybe I’m doing something wrong or skipping a step but I wish my Nosler brass would last longer as I paid a pretty penny for the batch of brass. The Bertram’s are on their 3rd reload and all is well with the exception of just trimming OAL.

This is just a preliminary review of this “ready to load” brass. I did not take the time to weigh the cases in each lot that I bought but started weighing out powder charges right away. Ok, call me naive, but I took the product at its word and tried loading without pre-sizing. I should have known when I shaved some copper jacket off of a couple of bullets (boat tails). Finally one bullet caught the edge and collapsed the neck wall. After using the bullet puller I unfortunately found that the piece was beyond use – even after running it through a full length re-sizing die. The next lot of brass I ran through the sizing die and found that the inner diameter of the case neck was VERY tight if not out of spec. This does sound like a miniscule issue, but the reason I am writing this is that I contacted Nosler and explained what had happened. I requested that they replace the ONE piece of brass (worth $4 +) so that I would have a complete set for at least my FIRST FIRING. The response from Nosler – CRICKETS . . . I have not been a long time loyal fan of Nosler and, after this experience, I don’t believe I ever will be. Great cartridge though!

  3. Vanammo

Very little case prep work is needed to load right out the box.

  4. Vanammo

I highly recommend the nosler brass I have been using it for years in my hunting riffles .The brass is the best on the market

  5. Vanammo

    Love Nosler!

  6. Vanammo

This brass seems to be holding up well. I am on my fourth firing and it seems to be right and tight. I still feel the price tag is a bit much. As the old saying goes buy once cry once!

  7. Vanammo

Nosler brass is very consistent in weight and comes out of box ready to use. I have used 100 and all have been ready for reloading.

  8. Vanammo

Nosler makes some very quality brass. With very little options for the 28 Nosler it’s best to just go with this brass.

  9. Vanammo

My Sako “Vixen” in .222 Rem performs very well with this brass. I’m delighted with sub-MOA groups at 100 yards from the bench with Hornady V-Max bullets and a conservative load of IMR-4198 or Ball C-2.

  10. Vanammo

Hard brass to get ahold of and very expensive but it is very consistent and holds up well. This has been only brass available for Nosler cartridges until this year when Hornady released theirs. I still like Nosler brass but which it was more affordable.

  11. Vanammo

last longer than hother brands of brass

  12. Vanammo

Very Pleased with this Brass so Far. Have Just started working up loads for my Browning Hells Canyon X-Bolt. Brass is very consistent in weight and measurements. I do reset all my brass neck tensions however before firing. Only Bummer to this point was the Brass went on Sale 2 Days after receiving my Order.

  13. Vanammo

Have reloaded a lot of 28 Nosler in the last 2 years..this is very good brass..I like everything about it..primer pockets are snug, straight cases. Its a great product

  14. Vanammo

Brass is top notch, but expensive!

  15. Vanammo

Used to reload for a custom 28. I’ve had pretty good luck with Nosler brass, I anneal after every firing with the bigger calibers and usually get 4-5 firings before I see any primer pockets begin to get loose.

  16. Vanammo

I bought 50 pieces of Nosler 280AI brass and found it to be excellent already sized and very consistant with deburred flash holes, the primer pockets are also still nice and tight after 7 reloads…I highly recommend this brass, I find as good or better than Lapua ( which I also have used quite a bit) ……

  17. Vanammo

REALLY ONLY ONE STAR☆! The reason I gave it 5 stars is so that it don’t get buried at the bottom of the reveiws by midway system. When you pay the HIGH price for nosler brass you are suppose to be getting match grade brass. The box of 50 I received had a spead of 2.1grs. And that’s not match!

  18. Vanammo

This is very high quality brass. Piece to piece I’m getting less than .2 grains variance in weight and less that .2″ variance in neck run out. Hard to beat that. Just wish the 28 Nosler brass was easier to find. Thanks

  19. Vanammo

I gave this brass 4 stars because it is advertised as prepped and ready to load, and for the most part it is. However, if you are a precision shooter and/or demand extreme accuracy for your hunting rounds (like I do), you are going to have to re-size this brass prior to loading. I bump my shoulders on my brass back .002″ in my 28 Nosler, 25-06, and 6.5 PRC and you will not get that kind of precision out of the box with these cases. Again, this brass is not bad and I definitely would buy them if there were no other options (and I do think they are pricey), just know that if you are a precision shooter you will have to put in a little work on resizing prior to loading (which most of us probably don’t mind anyway). If you are ok with 1 MOA or .75 MOA in your loads, you could probably skip the sizing step. Hope this helps.

  20. Vanammo

This brass is supposed to be load ready. While seating bullets I encountered much more resistance than a normal. What ever sizing die they ran it through did not have a proper neck expander and several loads were somewhat damaged because of the overly tight fit. One round would not feed because either it shaved some of the copper jacket off on to the mouth or deformed the mouth of the case. Be sure to run this brass through your full length die before loading just to be sure.

  21. Vanammo

Cases vary up to 1 and a 1/2 grains. Have to resize necks because they are not round. Working up second load now.

  22. Vanammo

I load these in 7mm STW and 8mm Remington Mag. I get solid groups with both. In the 8RM, however, I can load to Nosler’s starting charge of RL-22 and IMR 7828, but no higher. Still getting good velocities, and low SD.

  23. Vanammo

i will buy this product again

  24. Vanammo
